This is the countdown to the big move-next weekend we move to the new facility! We are in the home stretch of being on our way to the new building, trying to figure out how to logically, carefully, and with the least amount of interruption move all the animals, supplies, and busines to the new Lucky Dog location out on Richwood Rd in the north industrial park. As of October 1st, Lucky Dog will be open for business out at the new location, so stop in and see us and the new facility! There will still be some finishing touches being completed, so please be patient!
It's been a busy week for adoptions here, but we still have more animals coming in than going out most of the time. The city of Callaway has decided to work on tightening up their animal control policies, so we will now be receiving animals from Callaway also, totaling 5 cities for which Lucky Dog operates the city pound.
Big congratulations go out to our 4H'ers down at state this weekend. We haven't heard Sunday's report, but as of yesterday, Becker County was being well represented with two Grand Champions, one in obedience and one in Showmanship, two reserve champions in agility, and several blue and red ribbons! These kids have worked really hard on their dog training and knowledge to get down there, and thanks to their parents for providing them this opportunity!

What's happening at Lucky Dog!
Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the Lucky Dog blog. This will be most often updated by Mary, with occasional visits from Linda and others to keep everyone informed and entertained with the day to day stuff here at Lucky Dog!
We want to talk a little bit about our weekend here, as it had a lot to do with rescue, which is near and dear to us. On Saturday, we took in as a stray a dog that is out of our jurisdiction, but had no where else to go. This happened to be a chocolate female with 5 black pups found up by Strawberry Lake. She and the pups appear to be in good health, but probably wouldn't have been if they were left there for long. We will be adopting the pups out in about three weeks, so if you know of anyone looking for a new pup, or a very sweet mom, send them our way!
We also took a phone call yesterday from the fine folks at the Red River Emergency Clinic. Some good samaritans found a stray pregnant shepherd mix female on the back roads of Round Lake being hassled, and upon seeing that she had some injuries and was pregnant, brought her to the emergency clinic in Fargo. We were prepared to make arrangements on Monday to get her into our vets to further assess injuries and see where to go from there with her, but overnight she was doing so badly they did x rays and discovered that her hip was completely shattered, and that the only humane thing to do was to put her down.
I don't write about this to make anyone sad, but to address a couple issues. We really want to be able to promote good pet ownership, and these girls and their babies definately could have used a bit more of that. Please check out our website for more information on what to do with stray animals in our area. Also, this really enforces our feelings on spay/neuter programs, so there aren't anymore unwanted litters. There is a great group of people in the Fargo Moorhead area known as the PAAWS project, who offer low cost spay neuter assistance funds, please check them out at 701-356-0523 or http://paawsproject.org Otherwise, various veterinarians around the area and humane society groups often offer reduced cost clinics to help with the overpopulation of pets, so please contact them for more information.
Lucky Dog would like to always be in the position to take in every unwanted or stray animal, but the old saying about it takes a village is true. We want to thank every one of our clients and customers who has donated towards the medical funds of these animals, who drops off extra chewies to make their time a little more fun until they're adopted, those who donate extra food and litter, and those who take the time to come and spend time walking or petting the animals. They need that so much until they can find their new homes, and we really appreciate those of you that have been such a big help with all of our animals.
Lots of fun things on the schedule today-we get to meet with Erin Foley our new groomer who will be joining us with Muttley's Dog Grooming in the new building. We are working with our mom and pups, and boy are those guys eating! We have the Canine Good Citizen test tonight for anyone that is interested in seeing some well behaved dogs pass this test, please come on over at 7pm here at Lucky Dog!
